CVU gets state and national honor, in its 2015 rankings of American high schools, ranks Champlain Valley Union High School as the best public high school in Vermont and the 38th best—and third safest—high school in the United States.

In its academic ranking of CVU, Niche cited in particular the school’s high graduation and college attendance rates, its high ACT and SAT scores, and its unique Graduation Challenge requirement that “allows all seniors to dedicate much of their final year to a personalized research project.”

Niche was founded as a startup company by Carnegie Mellon University students in 2002 to help parents and professionals choose neighborhoods, colleges and K-12 schools. In rating K-12 schools, Niche uses information from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System and College Navigator, databases maintained by the National Center for Education Statistics, which is located within the U.S. Department of Education and the Institute of Education Sciences.
