The Mount Philo Forever Fund is hosting a benefit ‘Pheast for Philo’ on Saturday, October 3 from 4:30–7 p.m. at the Mt. Philo State Park summit. The fund was set up in honor of Will Cameron Hagedorn, a Charlotte resident who worked at the park when he passed away in 2013. The purpose of the fund is to provide an opportunity for other young local people in the community who express interest in the environmental services field, to commit themselves to a summer internship program at the park. The position of Park Attendant places emphasis on park philosophy, environmental stewardship, customer service and teamwork. It is an excellent primer for instilling work ethic and confidence in young people. The fund had its first recipient this summer—Curran, 16, from Charlotte. It was Curran’s first job and he was an asset to the park and community. The fund hopes to perpetuate this internship through individual and corporate funding.
The Mt. Philo Forever Fund is under the umbrella of Vermont Parks Forever but has its own separate fund. Vermont Parks Forever was established in 2013 to enhance and protect the Vermont State Parks through charitable and private support, in partnership with Vermont residents, visitors and State government. Together we work to ensure the Parks continue to be an asset enjoyed by residents and visitors alike, and demonstrate Vermont’s commitment to conservation, recreation and public health.
